Small picture of a Mercer 44

Mercer 44 Gibbor Sailing

She was Cape Cod Shipbuilding's 2nd Mercer. She was actually the 1st one to be sold however which has caused some confusion with Ensis (now Wandering Aengus) who was sold 2nd but is in fact the first hull from Cape Cod Ship. She was named "Orpheus" by Alex Vietor from New Haven, CT and Florida. At some point she was sold to D. Woods and renamed "Rio".

Currently she is registered out of Rio Dulce, Guatemala and owned by a local couple there. They have done her decks, interior, added wooden floors to all inside, new electronics, new roller furling system and new sails, re painted and refurbished her hull. They have been working on getting her a new engine and generator and expected to have her ready for her first sea trial in November 2009.
